I studied Mezoamerican art history and was surprised to find it one of my favorite classes at my University. In it, I learned about a civilization that loved the concept of temporary beauty. They treasured bird feathers that had color that would quickly fade and other pleasures that were very temporary or fleeting. This concept reminds me of a rose. It's beauty is so temporary, yet that makes it all the more beautiful. Other flowers last longer, but in a bouquet, the rose is usually the first to go, and is it a coincidence that it too is usually the most admired?
